Perhaps it was Madonna’s music video for her hit song “Vogue” that introduced people to gender non-conforming fashion. Or maybe it was the late Diane Keaton’s “Annie Hall” who did it before her. Either way, no-longer is fashion reserved for the heteronormative, fashion can be anything worn by anybody. Let’s discover some popular models in the industry where the only labels they’re wearing are the ones on their clothes.

Alex Consani

One of fashion’s biggest rising stars, Alex Consani blends high-fashion credibility with chaotic, funny social media energy. With major runway appearances and a massive TikTok following, she represents a new kind of model—equal parts influencer and industry insider.

Valentina Sampaio

She may wear a blazer on the runway, but she’s also a trailblazer in the real world. Valentina Sampaio made history as one of the first openly trans models to work with Victoria’s Secret. She’s polished, beautiful and can sell the hell out of lingerie. Her aura may read classic supermodel, but she’s opening the doors for future generations who want to fly high after taxiing on the runway.

Hunter Schafer

From screen to sheen, Hunter Schafer has gone from “Euphoria” to editorial and we can’t decide where we want to watch her more. She brings an artistic, cerebral edge to modeling that resonates strongly with younger audiences whether through a spicy HBO series or a Prada original.

Emira D’Spain

Reality TV hasn’t done much documenting how the real world operates, but at the least it’s a platform for progressive thinkers. Trans Model Emira D’Spain was featured on Bravo’s “Next Gen NYC,” and her name got out there. She’s a beauty influencer turned fashion figure, and has built a strong social media following while continuing to break barriers in the industry. She blends luxury with lifestyle, making her one of the most visible trans creators in history.

Laith Ashley

When you hear the name Laith Ashley you most likely think of major labels and fashion houses. He is one of the most prominent trans male models in the industry. Ashley challenges traditional norms of masculinity while maintaining a broad and mainstream appeal. His campaign for Diesel was groundbreaking, fueling a prolific career in the industry.

Willa Devereux

Turning the fashion world into a young and fresh industry once again, Willa Devereux is an emerging force who’s drawing a lot of attention. With a cool, understated presence, she represents the next wave of trans models shaping the industry from within. Her talent is what people are focused on and that’s the best part.

Voices of Now: Young Queer Writers You Should Be Reading

Today, reading has become a pastime one usually does while scrolling through social media. For those who have enough time to sit down and actually enjoy a novel it’s probably done on a tablet device. It’s not a bound book and that’s okay, as long as fans are keeping literature alive, it won’t be forgotten. For the queer community, their stories are only now becoming the narratives in popular fiction. Not even 30 years ago some booksellers hid works about the LGBTQ+ community in the mental health and wellness section. Now our stories can be found in all sections, even in children’s books. Queer writers are finally at the forefront of modern storytelling, and their stories aren’t just changing where they are placed in the card index cabinet, but how they affect the lives of people reading them. Here are six queer authors writing fiction for modern times and making sure queer stories are archived for future generations.
