Variety has debuted the first-look trailer for 'Stop! That! Train!', the inaugural feature film set within the RuPaul's Drag Race universe, promising a high-energy action comedy infused with vibrant, campy style. The trailer, shared via YouTube by StudioLux, showcases drag performers Ginger Minj and Jujubee as best friends who must team up with a gang of snobby first-class employees and even the President of the United States to halt a massive, out-of-control train speeding toward Los Angeles after a terrifying storm strikes.

Directed and produced by Adam Shankman, the film is written by Christina Friel and Connor Wright, and co-produced by Unapologetic Projects and World of Wonder, the production company behind RuPaul's Drag Race. The ensemble cast features prominent transgender and queer drag artists including RuPaul Charles, Ginger Minj, Jujubee, Brooke Lynn Hytes, Latrice Royale, Marcia Marcia Marcia, Monét X Change, and Symone, all known from the long-running reality competition series that has elevated drag culture globally.

Production on the project began in September 2025, as first reported by Deadline Hollywood, which announced RuPaul starring in the action comedy under Shankman's direction. In October 2025, the full cast was revealed, highlighting a lineup of Drag Race alumni celebrated for their charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent—qualities central to the franchise's ethos. Bleecker Street acquired North American distribution rights in September 2025, with Universal Pictures Content Group handling international distribution; the film is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 29, 2026.

The trailer's plot teases a fast-paced adventure where the heroes navigate chaos while prioritizing flawless outfits and wigs, blending high-stakes action with the exaggerated glamour synonymous with drag performance. This narrative choice underscores themes of resilience and style under pressure, resonating with the Drag Race community's emphasis on perseverance amid adversity. RuPaul Charles, a transgender icon and Emmy-winning host of Drag Race, leads the project, marking a significant expansion of the franchise from television to cinema.

For LGBTQ+ audiences, the film represents a milestone in mainstream visibility for drag performers, many of whom are transgender people or from queer communities, bringing their artistry to a major theatrical release. Out magazine previously noted the project's development, signaling early excitement within LGBTQ+ media for RuPaul's big-screen venture. Shankman's direction, known for musicals like Hairspray, aligns with the film's colorful, over-the-top aesthetic, potentially broadening appeal to diverse viewers while centering queer talent.

World of Wonder's involvement ensures authenticity to Drag Race's legacy, which has launched careers for performers like Symone, a transgender woman and season 14 winner, and others in the cast. The trailer's release today builds anticipation ahead of the summer premiere, with StudioLux urging fans to subscribe for updates on this vibrant extension of the Drag Race universe. As one of the first feature films to directly spin off from the series, 'Stop! That! Train!' highlights the evolving influence of drag culture in Hollywood, offering transgender people and queer artists prominent roles in a genre typically dominated by conventional action stars.
