Notable Contestants

Julia Stiles joins the competition after a career that includes the hit dance film Save the Last Dance and the Bourne series. Stiles will dance with professional performer Ezra Sosa.

Maura Higgins, who will dance with Mark Ballas, is known to U.S. audiences for appearing on The Traitors and to U.K. audiences for Love Island. Higgins and Ballas previously crossed paths during her time on The Traitors.

Jackson Olson, an infielder for the Savannah Bananas, will be paired with Emma Slater. Olson has millions of followers across TikTok and Instagram.

Returning Hosts and Judges

Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli are returning as judges for Season 35. Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough are returning as co-hosts.

The series pairs public figures with professional dancers, who train them for ballroom performances judged throughout the competition.

Premiere Details

Season 35 is scheduled to begin with a live two-night premiere on September 15 and 16. The full network announcement came following a campaign in which several contestants were disclosed individually before presenting the full field.

The Season 35 cast brings together performers with established dance backgrounds and contestants entering ballroom competition from television, sports, food media, and online entertainment.

Addressing the crowd during her last concert in London Tuesday before she takes a break from the public eye, the singer was full of emotion and gratitude.

Grande thanked the audience and called The Eternal Sunshine Tour one of “most beautiful, extraordinary, experiences” of her life.

The music star confirmed in August that she’d be taking time out after the conclusion of her live shows, with the final leg being a 10-date run at London’s O2 Arena.

On stage, Grande has admitted to being emotional about the tour coming to an end after 41 dates, which also took place in the U.S. and Canada before the U.K. On Tuesday, she tried to speak “without sobbing completely,” she said.

“I’ll cherish this experience always. I have the best fans in the entire world and I always have,” she said.

A representative for Grande told People magazine in August that the 33-year-old singer “will be taking a step back from visibility" after the tour.

“She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny,” the statement said.

In a social media post on Monday, ahead of the penultimate night, Grande warned fans that she had to swap out her trademark six-inch heeled platform boots after cutting her foot.

She reassured them that she was on the mend, even if she was a few inches shorter on stage.

While Grande wasn’t in her highest heels, her followers still were; the audience dressed up in her style with stilettos, cat ears and ponytails — something the star noticed.

“Thank you for all of your effort and continuing to make this so special. I have loved every minute of this with you all,” Grande said.

The concert concludes with Grande summoned back, sci-fi style, to a spacecraft as she ascends to the mothership in a beam of light.

It’s not known when she will next be seen on earth, although Grande’s most recent album “Petal” will certainly be a fixture at September’s MTV Video Music Awards, where she’s in the running for artist of the year.

Bailey confirmed the decision in a statement shared on social media and reported by multiple outlets. He wrote that Ariana Grande was “one of my dearest friends” and that his support for her was “unwavering.” Bailey also described director Marianne Elliott as “one of my longest collaborators and friends.”

“After much consideration, I have decided to also step back from Sunday in the Park with George,” Bailey said. He called the musical a “brilliant, introspective” work and said it had been “a real passion project” for him.

Bailey said he felt “incredibly lucky” to have shared in the production’s journey with its creative team. He added that the story explores “the deep connection between George and Dot” and expressed anticipation about what the replacement performers would create in the roles.

Grande’s Earlier Exit

Grande announced in August that she was stepping back from the production as part of a wider decision to take a break from public-facing work after completing her current tour. Her representative cited what Grande described as “endless, ongoing public scrutiny.”

Empire Street Productions said work on the production was continuing. The company said casting discussions were “actively under way” and that the creative team was reshaping the production around a new company while preserving the ambition and artistic integrity of Sondheim and Lapine’s musical.

Variety reported that a representative for Empire Street Productions confirmed the show would continue at the Barbican Centre in London. The production’s official website says tickets are expected to go on sale in autumn 2026.

The Barbican’s event listing identifies the planned musical as a production directed by Elliott. The venue previously said its theatre team was continuing preparations for a summer 2027 opening.

No replacement actors for George or Dot had been announced in the reports available on September 1. Empire Street Productions said further casting and production details would be announced later.

Sunday in the Park With George has music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by James Lapine. The musical takes inspiration from Georges Seurat’s painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.

Rapture is set in Yorkshire in 1348, during the arrival of the Black Death in the British Isles. The story centres on 10 monks living at the remote Lansley Abbey, whose isolated religious community is disrupted when a messenger arrives carrying news of a spreading illness.

The messenger is reportedly showing signs of infection, and the disease begins as a haemorrhagic fever before transforming victims into “revenants,” or undead creatures. As outsiders seek refuge at the abbey, the monks must decide whether to admit people who may be sick or close the gates to protect the monastery and the knowledge held inside it.

The resulting conflict reportedly involves betrayal, violence and the breakdown of the community’s established order. The film has been described by its coverage as queer body horror, medieval zombie horror and an “undead romance.”

Director and writer Jordan Tannahill has said that the narrative will focus on “the deep, passionate relationship between these two young monks who have grown up together.” The identities of the actors who will play the two monks have not been announced.

The cast and creative team

Connor, Poulter and Ríos were announced as the film’s central cast. Connor is known for Heartstopper, Poulter has appeared in Midsommar, and Ríos is known for Élite.

The film will mark Tannahill’s feature directorial debut. Tannahill is a Canadian playwright and director who has described Rapture as a “juicy” and “terrifying” project.

Drayton, a comedian and actor who was previously married to television presenter Alan Carr, has described the experience in an interview with The Sun and in posts shared on his Instagram account .

Sussex Police confirmed to The Sun that it was aware of the allegation and had “engaged with the informant.” PinkNews reported that officers later interviewed Drayton and that the force was investigating.

The police confirmation establishes that Drayton made a report and that contact took place, but it does not establish the identity of the person responsible or whether a criminal offence has been proved.

How the contact began

According to PinkNews, Drayton said on 24 June that an account contacted him and sent him one of his own intimate images.

He said the image was one he had sent to another person on Grindr.

The sender allegedly threatened to make the image public unless Drayton paid money.

The Sun reported that the demand was for $5,000 in cryptocurrency or iTunes gift vouchers, while its headline and article also described the amount as approximately £4,000.

The different currency descriptions reflect the newspaper’s reporting of the alleged messages and should not be treated as an independently verified payment record.

Drayton told The Sun that the person behind the messages appeared to use several WhatsApp accounts.

The accounts reportedly used profile images of men whom Drayton described as attractive, shirtless or presenting themselves as potential contacts.

Drayton said he believed someone may have used a second phone to photograph images that were intended to disappear after being viewed on Grindr.

That account is Drayton’s stated belief and has not been confirmed by Sussex Police in the reporting reviewed for this article.

Drayton’s response

Drayton initially appeared to treat the messages lightly, posting a video captioned “Don’t send nudes kids!” with the hashtag “funny,” according to PinkNews.

He said he was later advised to report the threats to police.

“When I first got a message and those pictures, my blood ran cold, it’s like your nervous system goes into high alert,” he said.

Drayton said he was concerned by the possibility that people were monitoring him, while acknowledging that his public Instagram account made information about him accessible.

He told the alleged blackmailer to “feel free” to publish the images.

Police involvement and wider context

“Fjord” (Neon, in theaters): Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu’s social drama, the Palme d’Or winner at the Cannes Film Festival, stars Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve as the parents of a family who have moved from Romania to Norway and soon find their religious lifestyle chafes against the progressive community.

“One in a Million” (PBS, streaming): Over the course of a decade, Itab Azzam and Jack MacInnes follow Israa, who is 11 when filming begins, and her family in Syria as they prepare to cross the Aegean Sea to reach Europe.

“Wildwood” (Fathom, in theaters): A sprawling stop-motion animated film from Laika, adapted from the book by Colin Meloy, is about a girl whose baby brother is kidnapped by crows and flown into a magical forest.

“Ali G: Who Iz I?” (Amazon MGM, in theaters): Sacha Baron Cohen returns as one of his original characters in a new feature film. Baron Cohen also directed.

“Klara and the Sun” (Sony Pictures, in theaters): Taika Waititi’s adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel is about a brokenhearted family who is helped by Klara, an Artificial Friend. With Amy Adams, Natasha Lyonne and Jenna Ortega.

“Clayface” (Warner Bros., in theaters): The latest DC Studios release is a horror thriller about an up-and-coming actor whose face is disfigured by a gangster. Tom Rhys Harries stars as Matt Hagen/Clayface.

“Fatherland” (Mubi, in theaters): Polish filmmaker Paweł Pawlikowski (“Ida,” “Cold War”) directs this postwar drama about German writer Thomas Mann (Hanns Zischler) and his daughter (Sandra Hüller) crossing between Soviet- and American-controlled Germany.

“The Only Living Pickpocket in New York” (Sony Pictures Classics, in theaters): John Turturro stars as Harry, an old-school New York hustler whose pickpocket ways are growing obsolete in a digital world.

“Possible Love” (Netflix, in theaters; streams Nov. 6): Korean filmmaker Lee Chang-dong follows up his acclaimed 2018 film “Burning” with this drama about four strangers whose paths cross by chance.

“A Talent for Murder” (Bleecker Street and LD Entertainment, in theaters): Helen Mirren plays the thriller writer Patricia Highsmith in Anton Corbijn’s film about a young man (Alden Ehrenreich) trying to convince her to write another Tom Ripley novel.

“Wicker” (Black Bear, in theaters): Olivia Colman stars as a fisherwoman in a small village who commissions the local basket maker (Peter Dinklage) to weave her a husband. The result (played by Alexander Skarsgård) turns out surprisingly well.

“Mosquito Bowl” (Netflix, in theaters): Peter Berg directs this adaptation of Buzz Bissinger's bestseller about four college football stars who enlist in the Marines after the attack on Pearl Harbor. With Nicholas Galitzine, Bill Skarsgård, Ray Nicholson and Tom Francis.

“The Mongoose” (Samuel Goldwyn Films, in theaters): Liam Neeson stars as a war hero on a getaway mission in this car chase movie.

“Gentle Monster” (Netflix, in theaters): Filmmaker Marie Kreutzer’s film is about a woman (Léa Seydoux) whose life unravels after her husband is arrested for possessing child sexual abuse material.

“Queen at Sea” (Greenwich Entertainment, in theaters): In Lance Hammer’s film, Juliette Binoche plays a woman whose mother has dementia. After an incident, her stepfather is arrested.

“Minotaur” (Mubi, in theaters): Russian filmmaker Andrey Zvyagintsev’s latest is about a Russian businessman who discovers his wife is cheating on him. At the same time, he’s tasked with conscripting workers into the Russian army for the invasion of Ukraine.

“Elsinore” (Focus, in theaters): Andrew Scott stars as Ian Charleson, an actor preparing to play Hamlet at London’s National Theatre while ill with AIDS.

“Steps” (Netflix, streaming): An animated riff on “Cinderella,” about her stepsister, Lilith (Ali Wong), who accidentally transforms her other stepsister, Margot ( Stephanie Hsu ), into a frog. With Amanda Seyfried as Cinderella and Bette Midler as the Fairy Godmother.

“Meet the Parents 4: Focker In-Law” (Paramount Pictures, in theaters): Sixteen years after the last movie in the comedy series, the Fockers return with Ariana Grande as the bride-to-be. Starring Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro.

“Hexed” (Disney, in theaters): A Disney Animation feature about an unconventional teenage girl (Hailee Steinfeld) who discovers secret magic abilities and other family mysteries with her mother (Rashida Jones).

“All of a Sudden” (Neon, in theaters): Japanese filmmaker Ryûsuke Hamaguchi’s sprawling intimate drama is about a relationship between two women (Virginie Efira, Tao Okamoto) in Paris and an elderly care facility trying to implement a caregiving approach called “Humanitude.”

“Hershey” (Angel Studios, in theaters): The origin story of the Hershey Chocolate Company, with Finn Wittrock as Milton S. Hershey and Alexandra Daddario as Catherine Hershey.

“The Further Mis-Adventures Of Cliff Booth” (Netflix, in theaters): David Fincher directs this spinoff from “Once Upon a Time … In Hollywood,” scripted by Quentin Tarantino, with Brad Pitt reprising his stuntman role.
