Smith made the comments during an appearance on "The New Yorker Radio Hour" on Aug. 11, discussing how Cowan influenced the album and supported its creation. The album is scheduled for release Aug. 21 through Capitol Records.

“He’s been so beautiful and encouraging through the whole process of this record,” Smith said of Cowan, according to People’s report on the interview.
