Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky’s first child is reportedly named Rose Bean Polansky, according to PEOPLE, which cited sources familiar with the family, and TMZ, which reported obtaining the child’s birth certificate.

The reports identify the child as a girl and say she was born June 9 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Billboard separately reported the same name and birth details while noting that the couple had not publicly commented.

Neither Gaga nor Polansky has publicly confirmed the child’s name, sex, or birth date, according to PEOPLE. The information should therefore be understood as reported rather than as an announcement made directly by the couple.

The name was reported on September 17, within days of the first public reports that Gaga and Polansky had become parents.

A connection to Gaga’s music

According to a source cited by PEOPLE, the first name Rose was inspired by “La Vie En Rose,” the song Gaga performed in the 2018 film A Star Is Born.

Gaga’s performance of the song appeared in A Star Is Born, in which she played Ally, an aspiring singer whose career develops alongside a relationship with musician Jackson Maine. Billboard reported that the film’s soundtrack spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

The song itself is associated with French singer Édith Piaf, whose recording of “La Vie En Rose” became an internationally recognized standard. Billboard also reported that Gaga has a large rose tattoo on her back accompanied by the words “la vie en rose.”

The reported connection between Rose and Gaga’s performance is attributed to a source rather than to a statement from Gaga herself.

The reported significance of “Bean”

The middle name Bean has also been linked in media reports to Carl Bean, a singer, minister, and activist whose work has been associated with the history of LGBTQ+ music and advocacy.

Entertainment Weekly, citing PEOPLE, reported that Carl Bean’s 1977 recording of “I Was Born This Way” helped inspire Gaga’s 2011 album and single “Born This Way.”

Gaga released “Born This Way” as the title track and lead single from her 2011 album of the same name. The song became closely associated with LGBTQ+ audiences because of its message of self-acceptance and its references to sexual orientation and gender identity.

Entertainment Weekly described the reported name as reflecting recurring themes in Gaga’s work, connecting “Rose” to “La Vie En Rose” and “Bean” to the legacy of “Born This Way.”

However, the reports do not establish definitively that the middle name was chosen as a tribute to Carl Bean. PEOPLE characterized the explanation as information from a source, while TMZ reported that the origin of “Rose Bean” was unclear.

Gaga and Polansky become parents

The reports about the baby’s name follow confirmation that Gaga and Polansky had welcomed their first child together.

PEOPLE first reported on September 11 that the couple had become parents after they were photographed with a newborn during an outing in California. The Los Angeles Times also reported the birth news, citing photographs and earlier coverage from Page Six.

At the time of those initial reports, the baby’s name, sex, and date of birth had not been disclosed. The later report naming Rose Bean Polansky therefore added details that had not been publicly available when the birth was first reported.

PEOPLE reported that Gaga and Polansky have been spending time away from the spotlight with their child. A separate PEOPLE report said the couple had taken time away from work to focus on their baby and quoted a source describing them as happy to be parents.

Gaga and Polansky became engaged in 2024, according to PEOPLE. The child is the first for both Gaga and Polansky, according to PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly.

What remains unconfirmed

The reported name has appeared across multiple entertainment and music-news outlets, including PEOPLE, TMZ, Billboard, and Entertainment Weekly.

The available coverage relies on reported sources and, in TMZ’s account, a birth certificate, rather than a public statement from Gaga or Polansky.

The couple has not publicly explained the choice of Rose, Bean, or the full name Rose Bean Polansky. Until they do so, the reported musical and cultural connections remain explanations attributed to sources rather than confirmed statements by the family.
