Teresa Giudice, a star of "The Real Housewives of New Jersey", asked the public to respect her daughter Milania’s privacy in a statement posted to Instagram on Monday, September 28.
Giudice said the family had been through “incredibly difficult” months and that she wanted to speak publicly while protecting her daughter during what she described as an extremely vulnerable time.
She attributed Milania’s distress in part to grief, writing that her daughter had experienced “tremendous heartbreak and significant psychological trauma” after losing two of her best friends. Giudice added that grief affects people differently and said her focus was on ensuring her daughter had love, family, support and care.
“Milania is my daughter before she is anything else,” Giudice wrote, asking people to show her daughter “compassion and kindness” and allow her the privacy she needs.
What happened at the airport
The statement came after an incident at Tampa International Airport on Wednesday, September 23, in which airport police were called to intervene during a family dispute involving Giudice and Milania. Us Weekly reported that video of the exchange surfaced before Giudice’s statement.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Milania, 20, became emotional and ran away from family members and a counselor traveling with them, prompting police to respond.
Body-camera footage from the encounter was later reported by multiple outlets. In the footage described by the Los Angeles Times, Giudice tells an officer that her daughter “had fentanyl in her system” and says she wants to save her life.
That statement is an account Giudice made in the footage, not independently established medical information in the reporting reviewed here. The Los Angeles Times and The Independent report what is heard in the video; neither report independently confirms a test result.
A request for space
Giudice acknowledged that the family’s public profile could lead to questions and speculation, but asked that attention not come at the expense of her daughter’s privacy. She said Milania deserved an opportunity to heal without every moment of her pain being analyzed publicly.
The request places the family’s public statement alongside widely circulated footage of a private and emotionally charged situation. The verified details available from the cited coverage are limited: police attended the airport incident, footage was released, and Giudice subsequently described her daughter as grieving and asked for privacy.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Giudice’s statement identified the loss of two friends as a source of heartbreak for Milania. The public accounts cited here do not provide further independently verified details about those losses or Milania’s care, and Giudice specifically asked that her daughter be allowed space to navigate the situation privately.
Giudice’s message closed with an appeal to the public and media to give Milania and the family privacy as they work through a difficult period.
