Katya, the drag performer known professionally as Katya Zamolodchikova, has announced a second hiatus in 2026, saying she is taking time away from upcoming projects and live events to prioritize her health.
“Katya will be taking time away from upcoming projects and live events so she can prioritize her health following recent medical complications,” the statement said.
The statement added that “a full recovery is anticipated,” but did not identify the nature of the recent medical complications or provide a timetable for Katya’s return.
Tour and live-event changes
The announcement came one day before Katya and fellow RuPaul’s Drag Race performer Trixie Mattel were scheduled to begin their Very Bald and Very Beautiful Tour in Oakland, California.
The tour was scheduled to include 19 performances in the United States through March 2027.
Katya’s withdrawal also affects other upcoming projects and live events connected with Mattel, her longtime collaborator.
The statement said that ticket holders would receive additional information about their options.
The announcement did not specify whether individual performances would be canceled, postponed, or reconfigured, and no complete replacement schedule was included in the reports reviewed for this article.
Katya’s team said she had the support of her family, her team, and Mattel, and thanked fans for their patience and understanding.
Earlier health setback in 2026
The latest hiatus follows a serious health crisis earlier this year.
Katya previously underwent emergency abdominal surgery after doctors diagnosed a bowel obstruction in her small intestine.
She later said that doctors had decompressed her stomach, flushed her intestines, and removed and reattached part of her small and large intestines.
The earlier illness led to the cancellation of a scheduled May 9 appearance with Mattel at the Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival.
In May, Katya and Mattel said the event would be postponed while Katya focused on her health and recovery.
The details released this week concern a separate set of “recent medical complications”; Katya’s team has not said whether those complications are related to her earlier bowel obstruction or surgery.
Katya’s career and public profile
Katya became widely known after competing on the seventh season of RuPaul’s Drag Race and later returning for the second season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.
She has also worked extensively with Mattel, including as a co-host of the Bald and the Beautiful podcast and the YouTube series I Like to Watch.
Their partnership has included live touring, podcasting, online video, and other entertainment projects.
The two performers first met through their involvement with RuPaul’s Drag Race and have remained professional collaborators since appearing on the franchise.
Katya has previously spoken publicly about taking time away from work to address her health and sobriety.
In 2024, she postponed tour dates with Mattel while entering treatment for addiction.
That earlier break is distinct from the current announcement, which cites recent medical complications and does not mention addiction treatment or sobriety.
What remains unknown
Katya’s representatives have not publicly disclosed the diagnosis behind the new hiatus.
They have also not announced a date for her return to live performances or other projects.
Because the statement does not provide medical details, reporting about the cause, severity, or expected duration of Katya’s current health problems would be speculative.
For now, the confirmed information is that Katya is stepping back from scheduled work, that events involving Mattel are affected, and that her team expects a full recovery.
